About the event
Step into the gentle rhythm of slow printmaking in this relaxed one-day workshop, where the focus is on enjoying the process of making rather than rushing towards a finished piece.
Inspired by the quieter moments of winter, we’ll begin with a gentle warm-up exploring monotype printmaking. Through simple mark-making, layering and the unexpected effects of working directly with ink, you’ll create a series of quick, expressive prints. There’s no pressure to create a finished image – the aim is simply to loosen up, experiment and see where the process takes you.
We’ll then move on to card relief printing, using simple cut-card shapes to create more considered winter-inspired images. Through playful experimentation with shape, texture, colour and layering, you’ll discover how beautifully atmospheric prints can be made with the simplest of materials.
You’re welcome to bring along your own sources of inspiration, whether that’s a favourite winter walk, a photograph, a poem, a memory or simply an idea you’d like to explore. There is no pressure to produce a perfect artwork. Instead, the day is about slowing down, trying something new and enjoying the simple pleasure of making by hand.
Suitable for beginners and those with some printmaking experience, this workshop offers a welcoming space to spend a day immersed in printmaking.
You’ll leave with a collection of original prints, fresh ideas and hopefully a renewed sense of how enjoyable it can be to make without rushing.
All materials are provided, along with tea, coffee and a festive mince pie to enjoy during the day. You’ll also have the opportunity to print your card relief designs on the Albion press, adding a special finishing touch to your winter printmaking experience.
