About the event
Monotype is one of the most adaptable and expressive printmaking processes out there. It’s quick, addictive, and surprisingly easy to learn. Its greatest strengths lie in the wide range of marks and tones it can produce - and its natural invitation to experiment.
In this workshop, you’ll explore three core monotype techniques: additive, subtractive, and trace. You’ll also be encouraged to play with ghost prints and layering to build depth, texture, and variation in your work.
This is a highly tactile, playful process that works beautifully with any subject matter. You’ll need to bring some source imagery for inspiration, along with a willingness to get your fingers inky (gloves will be available!).
Monotype is also a fantastic tool for developing ideas in other media - like painting or collage - and everything you learn can easily be continued at home, no expensive equipment required.
