Linocut in a Day: Explore, Carve & Print (Wed)

On this one-day workshop, you’ll be guided through the full linocut printmaking process - from designing and cutting to inking and printing.

From the start of the day, you’ll be encouraged to jump in, get carving, and explore the potential for expressive mark-making and pattern. You’ll work through an engaging abstract project designed to introduce techniques like colour overlays and texture-building in print.

Following this, you’ll design and carve a monochrome linocut print, with guidance throughout. You’ll also get hands-on experience printing with Isle Print Studio’s beautiful cast iron Albion press, and compare results with hand printing using a traditional Japanese baren.

By the end of the day, you’ll leave with a solid understanding of the best materials and tools to use - and likely a strong desire to keep printing!

This workshop is open to absolute beginners (including those who claim they can't draw!) as well as anyone looking for a creative refresher. The focus is on a playful, experimental approach to linocut, while still offering insight into traditional printmaking methods.
