Plein Air & Print: A 2-Day Collagraph and Monotype Workshop

At Isle Print Studio, we’re fortunate to work with a beautiful cast iron Albion printing press and to be surrounded by stunning rural views.

On Day One, you’ll be introduced to three expressive printmaking techniques that are perfect for capturing the drama and delicacy of the natural world: card-based collagraphs, monoprints, and monotypes. With these methods in mind, we’ll head outdoors for a walk in the local landscape, sketchbooks (and optional cameras) in hand. The goal: to observe, absorb, and record the moments that catch your eye and spark your imagination.

Day Two begins with reflection and discussion. Using your sketches and photographs, you'll begin to build a visual collage, combining elements that most inspired you to create a dynamic, personal composition. We’ll then explore how best to bring your ideas to life in print, before spending the rest of the day printing on the Albion press. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have created prints that evoke the unique spirit of Somerset.

This is an exciting and experimental workshop that weaves together the mindful act of outdoor observation with the tactile joy of printmaking. The best results often come when you're open to play, process, and the unexpected!

All printmaking materials provided, attendees must bring a sketchbook and their favoured drawing materials. Walking boots or shoes and clothing suitable for outdoor walking advisable.
