About the event

Spend a day exploring the colours, textures and atmosphere of the sea through drawing and linocut.

We’ll begin by gathering inspiration from the coast, using a sea-inspired playlist, poetry and expressive drawing exercises to explore the movement, moods and memories associated with the sea. You’re also welcome to bring along your own sources of inspiration, whether that’s a favourite photograph, a few words, a poem, a piece of music, or simply a memory of a place by the coast.

Using these ideas as a starting point, you’ll develop your own linocut design, learning how to simplify shapes, create texture and translate the feeling of the sea into a handmade print. You’ll be guided through the process of carving your block, applying colour and printing your finished work using the Albion press at Isle Print Studio.

By the end of the day, you’ll have created your own small edition of seascape prints. One finished print will be presented in a window mount and protective sleeve to take home, with additional mounts and sleeves available to purchase if you would like to present further prints from your edition.

This relaxed and creative workshop is suitable for beginners as well as those with some linocut experience. No previous printmaking experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to experiment.
