Wed 26 Nov
|Isle Print Studio
Bring still life to life in print, as you carve, ink and layer your way through the dynamic world of reduction linocut.

Time & Location
26 Nov 2025, 10:00 – 14:00 GMT
Isle Print Studio, Unit 1, Monks Dairy Workshops, Isle Brewers, Taunton TA3 6QL, UK
About the event
Reduction linocut printmaking is the art of creating a multi-layered printed image by carving and printing successive layers from the same block. This process allows for the creation of images full of depth and vibrancy, and was famously used by Pablo Picasso in the latter stages of his career.
In this course, you will learn all the fundamentals to get started with reduction printing. Using Still Life as your subject matter, you’ll learn how to transfer an image from tracing paper to lino, then cut and print a 3–4 layer composition. You’ll have the opportunity to print using a cast iron Albion press and also explore hand burnishing with a Japanese bamboo baren, allowing you to compare the results of both techniques.
You’ll develop an understanding of colour relationships and how to build a palette that brings out the full potential of your composition.
